About Our Fight

Plenty of companies are in trouble these days, but AT&T isn't one of them.

AT&T's 2008 profit was $12.9 billion. AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson and other top executives made $33.5 million and enjoy lavish perks, like personal use of any of AT&T's 15 corporate jets.

More than 100,000 AT&T employees are in contract negotiations with AT&T. Despite the corporation's financial health, top AT&T executives are pushing for cuts in quality jobs and health care benefits for employees and retirees.

Cutting wages and benefits isn't the way out of this recession. Healthy companies like AT&T should maintain good jobs in our communities and bring work back from overseas.

We've seen enough greedy AIG executives and Wall Street bankers with their hands out. Now it's time for CEO's like Randall Stephenson to step up and be good citizens.

About the Communications Workers of America

The Communications Workers of America is America's largest communications and media union, representing over 700,000 men and women in both private and public sectors, including over 125,000 employees at AT&T.  The current negotiations involve five contracts covering more than 100,000 workers nationwide. The contracts and negotiations sites are: AT&T East (formerly SNET), in New Haven, Conn.; AT&T Southeast (formerly BellSouth) in Atlanta, Ga.; AT&T Midwest (formerly Ameritech) in Chicago, Ill.; AT&T Southwest (formerly Southwestern Bell) in Austin, Texas; AT&T West (formerly PacBell) in Pleasanton, Calif., and AT&T Legacy, a nationwide unit, in Oakton, VA.

Negotiations began of February 24, 2009 and these contracts expired on April 4, 2009.  Talks continue, and workers are still on the job, although the CWA members covered by these contracts have authorized CWA's leaders to call a strike if necessary.
