Greetings,

Dear Alaska Flight Attendant,

I am excited to inform you that Delta Air Lines flight attendants are having an election to join our union! To date, over 1,200 Delta flight attendant activists have volunteered on the campaign to bring AFA-CWA representation to their work group and they have built a mobilization structure that will form the foundations of a strong union at Delta, giving them a voice at the bargaining table and strengthening ours.

In welcoming the over 13,000 Delta flight attendants to our union, we march ever closer to our goal “to unite all cabin crew members in the airline industry”—as stated in the AFA Constitution & Bylaws.

By broadening the reach of AFA-CWA’s collective bargaining strategy, we can prevail in preserving this profession we love. The greater unity we can secure among flight attendants across our industry, the greater our ability to recoup the losses sustained in airline bankruptcies; to protect our contracts in the context of airline mergers; and to preserve the gains we have made in our profession. Our union merger partner, CWA, is providing the financial resources for the Delta campaign and our future Delta members are setting the strategy, the activities and the defining the issues.

With the possibility of mergers upon us, having Delta flight attendants vote to join AFA is imperative: not just for them, but for any of our members who might be affected by a merger with Delta. This isn’t just about Delta flight attendants having a legally binding contract: it’s about ensuring we all maintain our current contracts.

Past experience tells us that soon after we file for a union election at any carrier, management will unleash a fierce anti-union campaign.  Such has proven the case at Delta where there is a barrage of anti-union propaganda being given to our Delta colleagues.  The courageous Delta flight attendants who have publicly stated their commitment to AFA-CWA representation deserve our support. I ask for your whole-hearted support in bringing the Delta flight attendants into the AFA-CWA family.

The National Mediation Board (NMB – the government agency that oversees airline union elections) has set the dates for voting.  Polls open Wednesday, April 23, 2008 and close on May 28, 2008 at 2 p.m. EDT. Votes are counted shortly thereafter. To keep abreast of developments in the Delta organizing campaign, visit www.deltaafa.org. We need your help to bring about this vital organizing victory. When you see Delta flight attendants in the airport or on hotel vans welcome them to our union, AFA-CWA, the largest and most prestigious flight attendant union in the world.

In Solidarity,

Renee Elson
