The term for our current MEC Officers ends June 30, 2008.  In accordance with our Constitution and Bylaws, we will be holding interviews for MEC President, MEC Vice-President and MEC Secretary/Treasurer at our MEC meeting on May 20, 2008.  The interviews will take place in Seattle.  The new term will run from July 1, 2008 through June 30, 2011.

MEC President Responsibilities 

 

 

The President shall be the official union spokesperson and chief executive officer for the flight attendants at Alaska Airlines as the representative to management and shall have the authority and duty to: 

 

1.         Be responsible for and charged with administering the policies of that Master Executive Council, and implementing the objectives and policies announced by the Board of Directors and Executive Board

 

2.         Be responsible for the expeditious processing of members’ complaints and grievances.

 

3.         Be available to attend various meetings with Alaska management in Seattle, Washington.

 

4.         Be available to travel to attend meetings with members and management in other domiciles, MEC meetings as well as other meetings required of the Association, such as the annual meetings of the AFA Executive Board and the AFA Board of Directors meetings.

 

5.         Steer committees at the request of the MEC such as the Flight Attendant Marketing Committee.

 

6.         Be a member and steer the Negotiating Committee.

 

7.         Be responsible for and supervise the business and managerial functions of the Union at Alaska.  Ballot the Master Executive Council if necessary or when required.

 

8.         Consult with and be assisted by the Vice President and Secretary-Treasurer.

 

9.         Maintain the Union’s files and transfer them to her/his successor promptly. 

 

10.      Be granted the privilege of the floor at all meetings of the Board of Directors, but shall have no vote, if not also a Local Council President.

 

11.      These responsibilities along with others.

 

 

 

MEC Vice President Responsibilities

 

 

1.         Function under the jurisdiction of the President in carrying out the policies and directives of the Master Executive Council.

 

2.         Perform the duties of the President at her/his request or in the absence of the President.

 

3.         Act as the liaison between the MEC Committee Chairs and the MEC.

 

4.          Maintain calendaring of MEC Committee Meetings and other MEC events/meetings.

 

 

5.         Steer Scheduling Committee and quarterly meetings with the company.  Submit pay for committee members and provide agenda for this meeting.

 

 

6.         Maintain AFA Website, with other MEC Officers, but focus on building interest; post articles and MEC blast emails to members.

 

7.         Be responsible for keeping the MEC updated on Flight Attendant union issues around the country. Concentrating on “Global”/cross Union outreach awareness. 

 

8.         Shall help maintain the website including membership information, postings and sending MEC blast to the membership.

 

9.         Attend monthly MEC meetings; quarterly Labor Leader meeting with the company; quarterly Labor Coalition meeting; annual AFA Board of Directors and annual Alaska Leadership Summit.

 

10.      Perform the duties of the President at her/his request or in the absence of the President.

 

11.      Be granted the privilege of the floor at all meetings of the Board of Directors, but shall have no vote, if not also a Local Council President.

 

 

 

MEC Secretary/Treasurer Responsibilities 

 

 

  1. Assist the President in administering Master Executive Council funds

 

  1. Maintain Master Executive Council re cords and perform such other duties that may be specifically assigned to the Secretary-Treasurer by the President or Acting President.

 

  1. Be responsible to the President and Master Executive Council

 

  1. Be responsible for general record keeping and accounting of the Master Executive Council budget and any funds.  Responsible for general record keeping and accounting of the MEC Budget including the reconciling all UB FPL monthly and send to International office; submit MEC Flight Pay Loss to the company monthly; and sign expense reports, keep hard copies of expense reports.

 

  1. Responsible for MEC Meetings and conference calls including making lunch and overnight arrangements; solicit agenda items/create agenda/take and distribute notes within three days of meeting or conference call.

 

  1. Oversee Membership information and records. Send membership address/status reports to International monthly; manage membership issues and submit MEC trip drops.

 

  1. Be granted the privilege of the floor at all meetings of the Board of Directors, but shall have no vote, if not also a Local Council President.

 

8.        Shall attend: Monthly MEC Meetings; Annual AFA Board of Directors; Quarterly Labor Leaders meeting w/company; and Annual Alaska Leadership Summit.
