STEWARDS ONLY ACTVITY 041309

This cyber activity is for BTU stewards only. All stewards are URGED to actively participate.

We all know how the district plans to cut the budget.

Superintendent Notter has repeatedly promoted his worst case budget scenario.

He has gone on and on about having to cut $160 million from the district's budget.

The Florida Senate and House are both proposing education budgets that include few, if any, cuts to public schools for next year.

Broward schools are slated to receive $200 million in federal stimulus dollars.

It's time to get all the facts! It's time for Notter to provide employees with worst and BEST case scenarios.

Ask school board members today to find out how the district intends to use the federal stimulus dollars to recruit, create and save employee jobs.

PLEASE EDIT THE MESSAGE TO SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS IN YOUR OWN WORDS BELOW AND CLICK "SEND" TO DELIVER YOUR MESSAGE.

Thank you!

Subject: Stimulus dollars: Retain Teachers!

Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,

President Obama says, "Almost all of the money that's going to states under the recovery act for education is designed to retain teachers. Almost the lion's share of it. I mean, there's some money for school construction as well. And there's some money for innovation because we can't just put more money into the schools without also reforming the schools and making them better. But a huge -- right now, the biggest chunk is for teacher retention." 03/18/09
