Save Jobs, Protect Working Families and Retirees

SAVE JOBS, PROTECT WORKING FAMILIES

If the auto industry collapses, an estimated 3 million jobs would be lost in the first year, devastating millions of workers, retirees and their families.  This is why the Labor Council for Latin American Advancement (LCLAA) is urging the government to stand behind the millions of working families that the auto industry supports by providing assistance to GM, Ford and Chrysler.  Please take action to help this cause. Allowing domestic automakers to fail will be harmful to millions of workers and our economy.    But we must also hold the auto industry accountable by making sure the loan's conditions include limits on executive compensation, prohibits the companies from paying dividends, and gives the government an equity stake in the companies to protect the interests of tax payers.

So make your voice count!

Take a minute of your time to join LCLAA and the %adv-participants-Save_Auto_Jobs% others that have already sent their message to Washington, D.C. in support of the millions of autoworkers and their families. Ask your Representatives in the House and Senate to support legislation that will provide assistance to the domestic auto companies.  It only takes a minute to fill out your information and show your solidarity with autoworkers nationwide.

Subject: Please Support Emergency Assistance to Domestic Automakers

Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,

GM, Ford and Chrysler will be forced to cease all manufacturing and business operations in the United States unless an immediate $25 billion bridge loan is provided to help them get through the current financial and economic crisis. Without this assistance, millions of autoworker families and retirees will lose their jobs, benefits and will see their pensions cut.

We are in the middle of an economic recession that will only be deepened if the auto industry is allowed to fail but we must make sure that safeguards are in place to make sure that taxpayers money is spent here in the United States to help the domestic economy. I understand that there have to be conditions, oversight and adequate protections for U.S. taxpayers. This is why I support a loan to the auto industry that imposes tough limits on executive compensation, prohibits the companies from paying dividends, and gives the government an equity stake in the companies to protect the interests of taxpayers.

Ultimately, the funds provided to the auto industry must protect millions of jobs but they also must also hold the auto industry accountable for getting on a sustainable path onto the future by strengthening the industry for the long-term and promoting efficiency and innovation.

I urge you to vote in support of this much needed assistance for domestic auto companies to ensure that they can continue operations, avoid bankruptcy and save millions of jobs.

Thank you for considering my views on this issue which is critical to working families nationwide and the economy.

Sincerely,
