with a candlelight vigil to symbolize the power of the
healthcare equity movement
- Get pumped to lobby your
state representative to fight for equitable reform on June
25th.
Our
country is in the midst of a healthcare crisis. We have a broken
system that costs too much, covers too few, and is increasingly
out of reach for many communities. But for some, particularly
women, racial and ethnic minorities, and other underserved
populations, the crisis is much deeper than
that.
For far
too long, African Americans, Latinos, Asian and Pacific
Islanders and Native Americans have endured systemic healthcare
inequalities that have resulted in greater suffering from
chronic diseases, shorter life spans, and an overall lower
quality of life. We demand that
our elected leaders pass a healthcare reform bill that ensures
higher quality, affordable healthcare that works for
everyone.
Tell your
friends and family about this fantastic event and join us as we
prepare to make equitable healthcare a reality for all people in
this country.

Urgency
A poll of
1,000 likely voters throughout the country finds widespread

HILDA SOLIS, standing up for workers'
rights at the Department of Labor (DOL)
Secretary of Labor Hilda Solis
stood up for workers by suspending regulations passed under the
Bush administration that lowered wages for immigrant
farmworkers and weakened protections for American
farmworkers. The Department of Labor announced it will
reinstate the former regulations in 30 days.
Arturo Rodriguez,
President of the United
Farm Workers and LCLAA's Executive Board member
stated, "The Bush Administration's rules lowered wages and
worker protections and made it easier to bypass legal U.S.
workers in favor of guestworkers. We are overjoyed that the
Secretary has overturned these cruel and illegal changes."
Baldemar
Velasquez, President of the Farm Labor Organizing
Committee (FLOC) and LCLAA Executive Board
Members called the announcement, "an important victory
against the Bush Administration's efforts to exclude farm
workers from voicing their concerns over the harsh policies of a
bygone era."
