Subject: Restore M/C Pay Cuts
Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,
I am an M/C employee whom you continue to single out for across-the-board pay cuts. The recent accord reached with CSEA/PEF reportedly will produce savings that, in your own words, will negate the need for the planned layoffs. It would seem that there is also enough revenue savings planned to restore the M/C pay cuts. Why then are M/Cs still being asked to sacrifice when no other state employees' earnings are being affected? I am astounded that these withholding actions are still in effect (which I understand will yield a savings of only $20 million or so), in light of the adoption of both the $132 Billion enacted budget and the recent deal with the unions. And this on top of your suspension in November of the M/C vacation exchange program!
To add further insult, no information has been provided about whether M/Cs will be allowed to participate in the severance incentive buyout program and in the expanding VRWS initiative. M/Cs have never been barred from such programs. Since the unions are touting that none of these issues amended their contracts, then there is no reason to deny participation to the M/C workforce. Are you rejecting savings from M/Cs who could leave the workforce and not be replaced (as in the past) or from those willing and able to participate in VRWS?
The employees on whom these actions will fall the hardest are career M/C employees like myself. We work alongside and, in many cases, supervise bargaining unit employees who already earn more than we do in comparable grades. These withholding actions have placed the entire statewide classification and compensation system into chaos.
Your action in singling out career M/C employees for pay cuts is a disincentive to excellent performance for those of us who cannot retire or leave. Needless to say, morale is at an all time low.
I urge you to reverse your withholding actions and stand up for your M/C employees. It is not too late to fully restore that which has been taken from us.
Sincerely,
|
