Temple Tries the Latest in Union Busting Techniques!
Temple administration once again attempts to undermine the Temple AFSCME bargaining unit by forcing union workers to accept merit pay as a part of their current contract negotiations. By forcing workers to accept pay raises based on “work performance” instead of a contract that covers an across the board raise for all members the employer is undermining the protection and benefits of being a member of the union.

Subject: Merit Pay
Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,
I am writing to express my concern about Temple University's attempt to bring in the "merit pay" plan for the members of AFSCME Local 1723. Merit pay is a popular means to weaken and eventually break a union. This tactic is used by some of the most anti-union companies in our country. Temple University has long been seen as a union friendly campus. The effort to use this tactic and Temple's handling of the AlliedBarton security guards cry for five paid sick-days really makes me question the direction of this institution.
In closing, I ask you as a member of the Temple community, a member of AFSCME 1723, a tax payer whose money goes to Temple University or a current or potential donor to the school, to not use "merit pay" as a divisive union busting technique in negotiations with AFSCME Local 1723.
Sincerely,
|
