This Friday and Saturday, the security guards at
the Philadelphia Museum of Art have the chance to reverse a
historic injustice.
The men and women who protect our city's most precious
cultural heritage have been working for poverty wages since
their jobs were privatized by then Mayor Ed Rendell in 1992.
Overnight, the jobs of the guards went from unionized jobs
with good wages and benefits to low-paying jobs. Now,
after nearly two decades, the security guards are fighting
back. They have choosen to do the nearly
impossible. They have choosen to organize their own
independent union, the Philadelphia Security Officers Union
(PSOU).

"I am encouraged to see such courage in our
city...
show everyone how to stand up and get things
done"
US Congressman Robert Brady in a letter to
guards
