Greetings,

 VICTORY!!!

Museum Guards Vote For Justice.

A Union Is Born!

It has been 17 years since the security guards at the Philadelphia Museum of Art had a voice on the job.  When their union jobs were privatized by, then Mayor, Ed Rendell; good, union, jobs vanished over night. Those jobs were replaced with poverty-waged jobs without access to quality affordable health care, meaningful pension options, career opportunities or even basic respect.

Help Us Win A Good Contract

Then, two years ago a group of guards decided to fight back, to stand up for what they and their co-workers deserved.  They decided to work with Jobs with Justice to try to form their own, independent labor union.

Many thought that this would be impossible especially since their employer, AlliedBarton, was the largest security company in the country and since the union had no direct link to an established union and since Jobs with Justice was such a small, non-profit community organization.

Still, the guards we very determined and knew that thousands of people in Philadelphia supported them.  We knew that this injustice had to end.

We called out to our community for action.  Dozens of organizers and volunteers from unions, community groups, churches and student groups began to pitch in.

Supporters like you pitched in to hand bill at the museum; to drive all across the city and visit guards in their homes; to make flyers, graphics, web-sites and posters; to offer prayer for us in your churches; to mobilize their friends to canvas nighborhoods finding and educating museum members and pan-handled for donations and figurative "change."

This Saturday, the National Labor Relations Board certified that the Philadelphia Security Officers Union had won the election.

This is a big step toward fixing the problems at the museum but the fight is not over yet.

Now, we need to help the PSOU win a good contract.  Don't let AlliedBarton delay justice any longer!
