, the
founder and former Chief Organizer of ACORN and of SEIU Local
100 to discuss his new book, “Citizen Wealth:
Winning the Campaign to Save Working
Families.”
This
annual, after-work reception will be generously hosted by
Freedman and Lorry, PC, 1601 Market St. Suite 2220, 22nd Floor.

Wade Rathke has been a movement pioneer
and leader since 1970, when he founded ACORN. Since that time,
ACORN’s innovative strategies have made it the largest and
most effective grassroots organization of and for the nations
poor and middle-class.
Their success has also made them one of the prime targets
for corporations and the right-wing as evidenced by the recent
round of attacks on the organization. His topical discussion at
this event will look to our current situation and give you some
important ideas for the future.
Labor is increasingly discussing how to
move forward with or without changes in labor law. Wade Rathke in his new
book, Citizen Wealth: Winning the Campaign to Save
Working Families, argues that the American labor
movements’ greatest success in the last 30 years has been
organizing "informal" workers through what he calls "majority
unionism" strategies.
This discussion could not happen at a
more important time or to benefit a better organization, Jobs
with Justice.
Jobs with Justice has recently lead an
innovative and winning campaign to organize the independent,
Philadelphia Security Officers Union. Our community-lead, union effort shows that
creative approaches that utilize non-union, community and faith
resources can improve the lives of workers even in the
challenging private and sub-contracted sector and against our
nations largest security company.
Please join us for this fun and casual
discussion about the future of worker justice by buring a ticket
to the "Wade Rathke Reception". Tickets are $50 and
all of the proceeds from the event will go to support the work
of jobs with Justice. Light fare and drinks will be
available.
