Reform of our nation's broken health care system is now closer to reality as it has ever been - meaning that the corporate lobbyists defending the status quo are pulling out all the stops to defeat it.

The same people who fought to rush through bailout money for the big banks last year are now trying to kill health care reform by delaying it until after the August recess.  After 65 years of debate on the issue, they want three weeks of vacation before they tackle reforming health care.

You know what will happen in those three weeks of vacation?

• 143,250 people will lose their health insurance coverage [pdf]
• 53,507 people will file for bankruptcy because they can't pay their medical bills.
• 1,265 people will die [pdf] because they lack coverage.

If we do not act now, family health insurance for union members will double to as much as $24,291.  That is $11,611 in future wages and retirement earnings that your family will lose to rising health care premiums during the next seven years.

For far too long, members of Congress have had the time to debate this issue. The time to act on real healthcare reform is now.
