Senate Votes on Future of Labor Department Tomorrow
Dear SMWIA Member:
Tomorrow, the U.S. Senate takes
its first vote to confirm Hilda Solis as our Secretary of
Labor. Your senators need to hear from
you now about why they must support Represeantive
Solis.
It's important that we have a strong Secretary of Labor
as the voice of working people during this economic
crisis. Hilda Solis will be responsible for unemployment
benefits, enforcing the minimum wage, and managing job creation
and training programs.
Hilda Solis was raised in a union household, understands
and is a champion of the middle class. She's fought for green
jobs, fair pay for women, project labor agreements, Davis-Bacon,
workplace rights and children's health insurance. She is an
experienced leader who has fought to restore balance to our
economy and fairness for working families throughout her entire
career.
President Obama nominated Hilda Solis for Secretary of
Labor more than two months ago. The time has come for her
to get to work.

Subject: Vote Yes On Cloture for Solis To Be Secretary of Labor
Dear [decision maker name automatically inserted here],
I am writing in support of Hilda Solis as Secretary of Labor. I urge you to vote yes on cloture and final confirmation of Hilda Solis.
Our economy is in dire straits -- just last month we lost 598,000 more jobs, and 3.5 million since the beginning of the recession -- and workers desperately need the Senate to appoint a strong Secretary of Labor.
Hilda Solis understands personally the challenges workers face in a global economy and the need for a bold new agenda that puts the needs of working Americans ahead of the needs of big corporations - an agenda that provides affordable healthcare for every American and gives workers a greater choice and a greater voice.
That we have the chance to have a Secretary of Labor who will fight for working people should be the exact reason to support Hilda Solis.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
[Your Name]
