Yesterday, Senator Arlen
Specter announced he planned to cave in to pressure
from Wall Street CEOs and their army of corporate lobbyists
on legislation that would help American
workers.
Can you believe it? A U.S.
Senator who once stood with working people like us now says
he will block a vote on the Employee Free Choice Act, a
bill he had co-sponsored and supported since it was first
introduced in 2005.
The Employee Free Choice
Act would give workers a fair chance at bargaining for a
fair wage, benefits and health care for them and their
families. It enjoys the support of a majority of
Americans, our Congressional representatives and
the White House.
As CEOs collect
their billions of dollars in taxpayer funded bonuses and
bailout money, the one thing
that would have given workers a better
chance at getting ahead during these tough
economic times has been compromised by the
Senator's decision to refuse to cut off debate on this
important lifeline for American workers.
Wal-Mart's Lee Scott said it
best when he spoke on behalf of his fellow CEOs: "We're
in the driver's seat and we're not going to hand the keys
to anyone."
These CEOs won’t
rebuild our economy so it works for workers and
communities. They like it the way
it has been – working for them, at our
expense.
CALL SENATOR SPECTER NOW at 202-224-4254 OR TOLL-FREE at
800-828-0498.
Ask the
Senator who he stands with.
Will it be
with with working people like he has in the past,
or will he cave in
to the Wall Street CEOs who put our economy into the
mess it is in?
Now, more than ever, the
Employee Free Choice Act is needed as the lifeline that
will keep the American Dream alive for millions of
Americans.
Senator Specter
holds its fate in his hands. Please take two minutes
to let him hear from you now and forward
this message to all your family members, friends and
co-workers to do the same.
Thank you for all that you
do.
