Support the Employee Free Choice Act

Early in January 2007, Reps. George Miller, D-Calif., and Peter King, R-N.Y., intend to reintroduce the Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA) in the 110th Congress. This key labor law reform legislation is a top priority of the UAW and other unions.

It would require all employers to abide by card-check recognition - that is, to recognize a union whenever a majority of their employees sign authorization cards. It would also provide for mediation and arbitration in first contract situations, and impose stiffer penalties on employers that violate workers' right to organize.

In the last Congress, 215 representatives from both sides of the aisle co-sponsored EFCA. The newly elected Congress is likely to be even more favorable towards EFCA - but we cannot take their support for granted.

We need to make sure that those representatives who are returning sign on right away to be original co-sponsors of EFCA when it is introduced in the 110th Congress. In addition, we need to encourage newly elected representatives to co-sponsor this vital legislation.

Subject: Sponsor the Employee Free Choice Act!

Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,

I am writing you to urge you to support the Employee Free Choice Act, which will be reintroduced in the next session of Congress. This legislation would help restore the right of workers to organize, free from employer intimidation and coercion. It allows for "card-check" union recognition and penalizes employers who violate the law.

The right of workers to form unions and to bargain collectively is an internationally recognized human right because it is essential to a free and democratic society.

Please stand with working people and sign on as an original co-sponsor by contacting Tylease Fitzgerald on Rep. George Miller's staff at 202-226-1881.

Sincerely,
