The "cash-for-clunkers" program has already been an enormous success, providing a major boost to auto sales, thereby helping auto dealers, manufacturers, suppliers and their workers — including tens of thousands of UAW members. The program has been so successful it has already used up most of the $1 billion in funding that was originally appropriated by Congress. Last week the House acted quickly to provide an additional $2 billion in funding to ensure that the program can continue.

This week the Senate is expected to take up the legislation to provide this additional $2 billion in funding for the "cash-for-clunkers" program. It is critically important that the Senate approve this measure before it adjourns at the end of the week. Otherwise, the "cash-for-clunkers" program will run out of funds and have to be suspended.
