Greetings,
The House is expected to take up health care reform
legislation during Nov. 5-10. The UAW and a broad
coalition of progressive organizations are strongly supporting
this landmark bill.
Please call your Representative, toll free at (866)
960-0611, and urge them to vote YES on the House reform
bill.
This crucial legislation will:
-- Guarantee all Americans access to quality, affordable
health care. -- Require employers to share responsibility for
financing health care. -- Provide subsidies to make coverage
more affordable for middle income families, and expand Medicaid
to help lower-income families. -- Help employers, VEBAs and
other entities continue coverage for pre-Medicare
retirees. -- Prevent insurance companies from denying
coverage because of "pre-existing conditions." -- Reduce
costs by eliminating uncompensated care, reforming delivery and
provider payment systems, and establishing a national exchange
to facilitate cost effective coverage. -- Establish a public
insurance option to ensure adequate competition in all areas of
the country. This will hold down the ever-increasing rates
charged by private insurers.
With these reforms:
-- Workers will no longer fear losing health care if they are
laid off. -- Pre-Medicare retirees will be less vulnerable to
cutbacks in health care benefits. -- The escalating cost of
health care will be effectively restrained. -- Employers and
wealthy individuals will pay their fair share. -- There is
NO new tax on workers' health care plans.
Opponents of health care reform are mobilizing to block this
bill and protect their special interest profits and perks.
Legislators need to hear from us now about the importance of
this bill for working families.
