Greetings,
It is with a heavy heart that the AFA- AMR Master Executive
Council announces the base closure of Boston , and with it the
loss of Council 55. Despite the efforts of your AFA-MEC
leadership in assisting ALPA, coupled with Management?s
willingness to engage in additional negotiations, the process
came to an unsuccessful close this past weekend. Management and
ALPA have determined that an agreement could not be achieved to
ensure Boston 's survival as a crew base. With the closure of
the Boston Pilot Domicile, the Flight Attendant domicile could
not be maintained as a stand alone entity. Therefore, the Boston
Flight Attendant base will close at the conclusion of the March
2009 bid month.
In the near future the Company will send relocation information
to our Boston flight attendants along with base selection forms.
Section 15.C., Filling of Vacancies and Section 6, Moving
Expenses, of the Collective Bargaining Agreement will apply. Due
to the base closure, the Boston Flight Attendants will be
awarded a transfer to wherever their seniority allows.
In the coming weeks AFA union leaders will be in the Boston crew
room to answer questions and concerns. Additionally, Linda Kunz,
American Eagle Vice President of Flight Service, and Sussan
Piper, Regional Managing Director for the East Coast, will be in
the Boston crew room in January to assist with questions. Your
AFA Master Executive Council is committed to ensuring that our
Boston flight attendants have the care and support they need as
they transition to their new bases.
Happy Holidays.
In Solidarity,
AFA Master Executive Council
