Contract Negotiation Team Member Vacancy

Due to a resignation of one of our Negotiation team members, the MEC will conduct an election process at the next MEC meeting being held in DFW. Also, according to our Contract Agreement, Section 31:

A. This Agreement shall become effective October 27, 2005 except as otherwise set forth in this Agreement, and shall continue in full force and effect until and including October 27, 2009 and shall renew itself without change until each succeeding October 27, thereafter, unless written notice of intended change is served in accordance with Section 6, Title I of the Railway Labor Act, as amended, by either party, at least one hundred twenty (120) days but not more than one hundred eighty (180) days prior to the 27th day of October in any year, beginning with 2009.

B. Should written notice of intended change be served in accordance with paragraph A., above, the Company and the Association shall meet and begin Section 6 negotiations no later than ninety (90) days prior to the 27th day of October.

We must fill the vacancy at our next MEC meeting in DFW being held in mid-Feburay. You will join the Negotiations Team that was elected during the MEC election process held in DFW in June of 2008. Experience in Grievance procedures, strong knowledge of our current Contract and Union Activism are preferred. You should be willing to devote your full time to this committee during negotiations for several years.

Some Duties and Responsibilities include:
a. The Committee, with the advice of the Staff Negotiator shall have the authority to conclude an agreement, subject to the provisions of Article XII of the Constitution and Bylaws.
b. All members of the Committee, including alternates whenever possible, shall complete a negotiations training seminar prior to writing an "opener."
c. Committee members shall be familiar with Union policy and keep abreast of new developments in the industry.
d. Committee members shall utilize the facilities and resources of the Union and the experience and knowledge of Union Officers, International Office staff and study committees of the Union. (e.g., Legal, Retirement and Insurance, Wage and Working Conditions, etc.).

Interviews and Election will occur at our next scheduled MEC Meeting, February 17-19, 2009 in DFW.
