Dear AFGE Activist,

"The assault on the nation's Transportation Security Officers (TSOs) has gone on for far too long and must come to an end. As the only union to have worked on behalf of TSA employees since the agency's inception. AFGE is grateful for the efforts of Rep. Nita Lowey, D-N.Y., House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Bennie Thompson, D-Miss., and Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee Chair Sheila Jackson Lee, D-Texas to introduce The Transportation Security Workforce Enhancement Act of 2009, which would right the longstanding wrongs TSOs have faced. Their legislation will help make President Obama's commitment to grant TSOs collective bargaining rights and workplace protections a reality for the 43,000 men and women who stand on the front lines protecting this nation.”

The Transportation Security Workforce Enhancement Act of 2009 grants TSOs the same collective bargaining rights and workforce protections as other federal workers and ends TSA's Performance and Accountability Standards System. Due to PASS' flawed nature and outrageous subjectivity, TSOs have been denied countless thousands of dollars in increased wages.

We have come a long way since AFGE first began representing TSOs in 2001 when the TSO position was federalized. Representative Lowey, Chairman Thompson and Subcommittee Chair Jackson Lee consistently have stood up for the TSO workforce and have worked tirelessly for years with AFGE to achieve the goal of workplace equality for all TSOs."

Subject: Co-sponsor H.R. 1881

Dear [decision maker name automatically inserted here],

Transportation Security Officers (TSOs) have worked diligently and effectively to protect travelers and our country since the creation of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) over seven years ago. TSOs have done so despite the absence of labor laws to ensure that they are treated fairly, properly compensated, and protected when TSOs point out potential security breaches. The time for change is long overdue. It is time for TSOs to have full workplace rights, including the right to bargain collectively. This is the most effective path to building the professional workforce that our country demands and deserves. The Transportation Security Workforce Enhancement Act of 2009 introduced by TSO rights champions Rep. Nita Lowey (D-NY), House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Bennie Thompson and Subcommittee Chair Sheila Jackson Lee ensures fair treatment for TSOs by granting them the same rights and protections as other federal workers, so that 43,000 TSO workforce is better able to perform the important job of protecting the flying public. TSOs are not seeking the right to strike, as no federal worker has the right to strike, or to negatively impact security. Instead TSOs seek a systematic and fair manner to deal with real day-to-day issues in the workplace that, when appropriately resolved, result in a strong loyal workforce.

Please join Rep. Lowey, Chairman Thompson and Chair Jackson Lee as a co-sponsor to H.R. 1881 to demonstrate strong support in Congress for collective bargaining rights and labor protections for TSOs.

Sincerely,

[Your Name]
