The fate of the A-76 process -- which determines whether your job gets contracted out -- could be decided in the next few weeks as House and Senate conferees come up with the final version of the 2010 Defense Authorization bill.
The House and Senate passed their versions of the bill in June and July respectively. The House version contains a 3 year suspension of the A-76 process plus a provision that prevents any A-76 study from lasting more than 18 months. This will protect jobs and gives AFGE time to pass the more sweeping contract out reforms contained in the CLEAN UP Act. The Senate version suspends A-76 but has an "escape clause" that lifts the suspension as soon as DoD establishes a contractor inventory. Plus the Senate version lets A-76 studies last as long as 36 months which is unacceptable. We need to create good jobs and stop the waste and abuse in the A-76 process. That means we need passage of the House version of the bill.
That's why we are asking AFGE members to call their Senator and urge them to support a 3 year moratorium on A-76 studies and an 18th month time limit on all A-76 studies.
