Dear Voice@Work e-Activist,
Organizing is the lifeblood of the union movement, but the
percentage of workers organized in unions has declined in recent
decades and this has hurt all workers. In the day-to-day
press of handling grievances, negotiating contracts, and the
like, it is easy to lose focus on the challenges of
organizing.
It's hard work, but organizing is the most important endeavor
to ensure the future of the labor movement. Despite
today's hostile legal and political environment, unions have
organized four million new members in the last ten years.
There are many exciting new strategies, tactics, and techniques
unions are using to fight back.
That's why the Wichita/Hutchinson Labor Federation of Central
Kansas, AFL-CIO is bringing some of the nation's leading experts
on union organizing to Wichita, Kansas for a one-day conference
on Thursday, September 7th.

The conference, Organize for our Future, Survival of the
Fittest, will be geared to the special problems facing
unions in right-to-work states. The panel of experts will
focus both on internal recruitment and organizing new work
places. This is the perfect conference for union officers,
business agents, stewards, and for anyone interested in building
a larger and more effective union movement. We encourage
you to join us Thursday, September 7th in Wichita, Kansas.
