Dear Voice@Work e-Activist,
Almost a year ago, Will Goodo, a Comcast dispatcher in
Oakland, Calif., got fired. The company says it was because of a
customer complaint—but there’s evidence the customer
in question never actually complained about him at all.
The month before
he was fired, Will spoke out for workers’ freedom to
form unions. After an International Human Rights Day rally, he
spoke in favor of an ordinance requiring companies like Comcast
to respect their workers’ freedom to form unions and
bargain collectively without fear of reprisals—an
ordinance Comcast opposed. Will had been leading the effort by
Oakland dispatchers to form a union.
A recent investigative report
by the General Counsel’s Office of the National Labor
Relations Board states that Comcast "apparently lied,"
"gave a false explanation for" and "fabricated" its reasons for
investigating Will. Yet it concluded that there was insufficient
evidence to prove Will got fired because of his union support.
Comcast says it is still investigating a report filed in October
by Communications Workers of America Local 9415 members
under the company’s Code of Ethics expressing concern
about the possible falsification of the customer complaint.
If
you’re a Comcast customer, please help Will Goodo get his
job back. Tell Arthur Block, Comcast’s secretary and
general counsel to reinstate Will and pay him the wages he has
lost since his firing last January. Tell Block you don’t
want Comcast customers like you to be blamed for firing Will.
Tell
Comcast to Give Will Goodo His Job Back
Comcast should
follow the “Comcast Credo” that commits the company
to “be true to the highest standards of honesty, fairness
and integrity.”
Will should not have to go into the new year still
waiting for justice.
Thank you for
helping Will Goodo get his job back.
In solidarity,
Voice@Work Campaign AFL-CIO
