Working women know the pressures of balancing work and family, the difficulties of making ends meet and the challenges of getting ahead.

We work hard and we need to be heard!

Working Women, AFL-CIO

The AFL-CIO, with 5.5 million women members, is a powerful voice for working women.

Whether your top concern is equal pay or flexible hours, child care or elder care, training for a new job or respect for the one you do now, one thing is certain: Working women agree that it's more effective working together to make changes on the job than trying to go it alone.

In the AFL-CIO's 2004 Ask a Working Woman survey, working women told us that they contribute a majority of their families' incomes, and work irregular hours and shifts different than their spouses or partners.

Working women want laws to:

  • Make Health Care More Affordable
  • Make Retirement More Secure
  • Restrain Corporate America
  • Strengthen Equal Pay Laws & Laws to Challenge Discrimination
  • Help Balance Work and Family
