Working Women, AFL-CIO

Dear Working Women Activist:

As a working woman, are you worried about pay not keeping up with rising costs?  Are you concerned about whether you'll have time off to care for a child or a parent?  Or do you feel that you're treated differently on the job just because of your gender?  We've all been faced with difficult situations and have had to make tough choices.

It's Not too Late to Take the Survey!

The Ask a Working Woman survey is about women coming together to make our concerns heard.  To date, more than 14,000 working women have taken the survey.  The survey concludes next Monday—and we'd like to have at least 20,000 responses by then to take to elected officials.  It's not too late!  Please visit www.aflcio.org/aaww2006 to take the survey.

We've Heard From Women Across the Country

So far, we've heard from working women from across the country.  Their comments to Congress have been compelling, angry and urgent.  As Linda from Cleveland, Ohio explained, "I am making over three times what my mother ever made and yet I cannot afford to own a home, like she did.  How can people making minimum wage live?"  Brennan from Washington, DC wrote:  "I want to have children some day, but I'm afraid of what their future might look like."  It's not too late to add your comments to the mix!

Please Encourage Others!

And if you've already taken the survey or if you're a working man, please encourage other working women to take part by visiting: www.aflcio.org/issues/jobseconomy/women/wwsurvey2006.cfm?sent=1

We all have concerns.  Let's make sure our elected official hear us.  The Ask a Working Woman survey gives us a louder voice when it's most likely to count—right before a major election.
