We Voted to Strike for Our Patients, Students and Our Families!

After ten months of negotiations with UC, thousands of members came out to vote in record numbers last week, voting overwhelmingly to strike to win a fair contract for our patients, students and families. 96.9% of Patient Care workers & 97.5% of Service workers voted to strike!  Today, we served UC with notice that we will strike for two days, from June 4th to June 5th.

Our strike vote shows that UC patient care and service workers overwhelmingly support our call for equal pay for equal work.  Now we need to make sure that our Chancellors and Medical Center CEOs know, without any question, that WE WILL STRIKE if necessary to protect our patients, students and our families.  Take action today!

Subject: IF WE HAVE TO STRIKE, WE WILL!

Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,

We have told you that patient care workers at YOUR medical centers are concerned that below-market wages and lack of a seniority-based step system with market ranges cause recruitment and retention problems that can compromise quality patient care. YOU HAVE STILL NOT ADDRESSED OUR CONCERNS.

We have told you that service workers at YOUR medical centers and campuses are being paid wages so low that they are forced to work 2 to 3 jobs or rely on public assistance to meet their families' most basic needs. YOU HAVE STILL NOT ADDRESSED OUR CONCERNS.

Because you have not addressed our concerns after 10 months of negotiations, we were forced to take a strike vote. Along with 96.9% of my co-workers in patient care and 97.5% of my co-workers in service, I VOTED TO STRIKE.

We do not want to strike. We want to reach an agreement that will protect our patients, students and families. It is time for you to address our concerns, because IF WE HAVE TO STRIKE, WE WILL.

Sincerely,
