Subject: 2009 Jobs and Economic Recovery Plan

Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,

I'm writing this letter to ask for your help in turning around our nation's economy by supporting an economic recovery package that creates jobs, invests in public services, education and health care. The citizens of Ohio are in the midst of some of the toughest economic times since the Great Depression. Our state's unemployment rate has increased dramatically and many individuals are losing their jobs as well as their health care. Ohioans are turning to state and local governments for needed services to help them find a job, pay bills, feed their families and obtain health care coverage. The rise in demand for these services is occurring just as Ohio and its local governments are being forced to make severe cuts.

Our economic crisis needs a national response. I understand that support for infrastructure projects is needed for our roads, bridges and other public works projects. However, we need an immediate and direct infusion of federal aid to states and local governments to help fund vital public services. Also, we ask that you look closely at sending local government funding through block grants which will expedite the process of funds reaching local communities.

I hope that you support an economic recovery package that helps Ohio avoid even deeper cuts in Medicaid, education and other vital public services on which we all depend.

Sincerely,
