AFSCME Power In Action

Dear Activist,

UPDATE ON HOUSE BILL 694 CAMPAIGN FINANCE House Bill 694 was introduced in the lame duck session of the 126th General Assembly and was aimed at Democrats and their union supporters. Because the law classed labor agreements as contracts, it would have placed stringent limits on contributions that could be made to political candidates. AFSCME Ohio Council 8 as well as other labor unions fought hard for our right not to be treated the same as a business where contributions can have the appearance of affecting who is awarded public contracts. On Wednesday, December 5, 2007 Judge John F. Bender ruled that the copy of House Bill 694 of the 126th General Assembly is not law because it was not properly passed by both chambers of the General Assembly. Now democrat Attorney General Marc Dann is considering appealing this decision by Judge Bender that would once again tie our hands in supporting pro-labor candidates who support our views at the state and local level. Please call (614) 466-4320 and tell Attorney General Marc Dann not to appeal this unjust law. As always your help in this matter is appreciated.
