Support the American Recovery and Reinvestment Plan
Attention AFSCME Retirees:
Contact your Senator today in support of President Obama’s American Recovery and Reinvestment Plan.
America is in the worst economic slump since the Great Depression. As senior citizens, we are feeling the effects first hand. Our 457 Savings Plans have plummeted 25% this past year alone. Many of the important services we count on day in and day out, such as transportation and prescription drug assistance, will likely be the first to be cut or eliminated as state and local governments face dismal budget shortfalls.
But we can do something about it.
A Senate vote is rapidly approaching on President Obama’s American Recovery and Reinvestment Plan. This plan provides financial relief for state and local government to help correct our economy and protect the public services that we need. Email your senator today to urge him or her to support the American Recovery and Reinvestment Plan.

Subject: Support the American Recovery and Reinvestment Plan
Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,
I am writing to urge your support for the American Recovery and Reinvestment Plan. At a time when our nation faces the greatest economic crisis since the Great Depression, this plan provides financial relief to state and local governments while investing in the long term health of our communities.
A particularly important component of this plan is state aid. Forty-five states have budget deficits totaling $350 billion through 2011, and will have to choose between dramatic cuts in basic services or painful tax increases. Many senior citizens rely on these services, such as transportation and prescription drug assistance, on a daily basis. This bill would help the states cope with the rising challenge of maintaining services under the stress of budget deficits.
I urge you to vote yes on the American Recovery and Reinvestment Plan - a critical first step in restoring the economic health of America.
Sincerely,
