AFT Connecticut's 2009 endorsements for
municipal elections. |

AFT Connecticut President Sharon Palmer is
participating in a roundtable discussion U.S. Secretary of
Education Arne Duncan. The roundtable is being hosted by
Connecticut's 4th District Congressman Jim Himes at Norwalk
Community College. Also, participating in the roundtable is AFT
Connecticut K-12 Council Chair John
Altieri. |

The sides are lining up in the corners of the
ring for the big contest: Tel-Com Giants in one corner, Internet
Heavyweights in the other. But they’re not the only ones
in this fight. Congress, consumers, labor, business and
Net-nerds are also staking their spots on the mat, making their
presence and preferences
known. |

The city's
Public Works Union, Local 1378, is sponsoring an Election Day
food drive to benefit the Gemma E. Moran United Way Labor Food
Center.
The drive opens along with polls at 6 a.m. on
Election Day, Nov. 3, and ends when the polls close at 8 p.m.
Each polling site (New London High School, Nathan Hale School,
and Harbor School) will have a collection box.
People who are
not New London voters but wish to participate can contact Bill
Barlow at (860) 941-8261, Deb Sommers at (860) 449-4248 or
Marianna McGuirk at (860) 235-9299 and make arrangements to pick
up items ahead of time.
