Where's the Money for PreK-12?
The budget crisis has been postponed, look for a rerun to happen at the end of October. The Education Budget has been passed and is sitting on the Governor's desk. She has not signed it, and she shouldn't sign it until the legislature finds the money to actually fund it. The House and Senate reached a budget agreement that is based on raising some taxes and fees to pay for it, but they have not yet done the work of raising the funds. The Higher Education budget has passed both houses but the Senate will not send it to the Governor because she has said she will use her line-item veto in an attempt to restore some of the financial aid cuts. The budget continuation runs out on October 31. It is time to stop taking the state to the brink - raise the money for the budget.

Subject: Finish the School Aid Budget, Raise the Money
Dear [ Decision Maker ] ,
The School Aid budget passed and we are now facing cuts equivalent to $165 per pupil. While that is better than what was talked about, unless the Legislature finishes its work and actually raises the money to fund the budget, we will be looking at much larger cuts mid-year.
Finish your work, raise the necessary money to fund the budget.
Sincerely,
|
