Save Jobs, Protect Working Families and Retirees
Last night, Republican Senators chose to put over 2.5 million American jobs at risk by opposing aid to the struggling auto industry. Manufacturing makes up the backbone of our economy and last night's vote has put our economy and the future of manufacturing in jeopardy. According to the Economic Policy Institute (EPI), close to 3.3 million jobs across all 50 states and all sectors could be lost if the auto industry goes bankrupt. Republican lawmakers wanted for UAW to make more sacrifices, this time on wages and benefits earned by the workers. President George Bush has the authority to use the funding from the $700 billion bailout package to provide the auto industry with the bridge-loan it desperately needs, and help save over 3 million jobs. The Federal Reserve also as the power to give loans to the Big Three. The holiday season is approaching and we are in the middle of an economic crisis. Let's show auto workers and their families solidarity by calling on the President and his administration to use the authority they have to save millions of jobs and protect retiree benefits. Will you help us do this?
