Company Releases VLOA Awards and Potential Furlough
List
AFA was notified by US Airways management today of the final
number of Voluntary Leaves of Absence and the list of possible
involuntary furloughs.
The Company received 240 requests for Voluntary Leaves of
Absence. Out of that number 116 leaves were awarded: 80
sixteen-month VLOAs and 36 four-month VLOAs. The additional 124
non-awarded requests came from within the group of most junior
flight attendants on the seniority list.
The Company has posted the list of VLOA
Awards and tomorrow will post the list of
possible Involuntary Furloughs. This information is
available on the Company websites theHub.com and Wings.com, as
well as at the Inflight Briefing room, the Hot Reserve room and
the glass enclosed bulletin board in the hallway near the
Inflight Briefing room.
Per the Flight Attendant Agreement, Section 21,A, when a
reduction in the number of active Flight Attendants is necessary
the Company shall simultaneously offer voluntary and involuntary
furloughs.
The next step is that the Company will open the bid for
voluntary furloughs to any Flight Attendant who wishes to
accept. The voluntary furloughs will be offered in
seniority order and for an indefinite period of time. If you are
considering a Voluntary Furlough, please refer to Section 21
– Furlough/Displacement/Recall in the Flight Attendant
Agreement.
Once the bid has closed on July 9, at noon for Voluntary
Furloughs, the Company will once again post the awards and the
final list of involuntary furloughs. The US Airways Inflight
Department will then individually contact those flight
attendants who are involuntarily furloughed.
AFA continues to encourage the Company to consider other
alternatives to eliminate flight attendant furloughs. We
also encourage any flight attendant who is able, to take
advantage of the voluntary furlough to mitigate job loss. As we
do in challenging and difficult situations, look to each other
for support and encouragement and do what you can to take care
of each other.
AFA 66 to Hold Furlough Meetings at
Airport
AFA Union officers and Committee members will be holding
Furlough Informational Meeting on Friday, June 26, 2009
(tomorrow) and on Monday, June 29, from 10am to 2 pm, at the
Airport International Concourse (IC) Conference Room, on the
high B concourse, upstairs, between gates B23 and B24. (Next to
the British Airways Lounge. See map below) AFA will be on hand
to answer questions, provide furlough information, financial
resources, EAP assistance and other benefits.
