Call
to Action Campaigns
AFA-CWA is urging members of
the Senate to ensure that a ban on in-flight cellular
telephone usage is included in any Federal Aviation
Administration (FAA) Reauthorization legislation that passes out
of the Senate. The U.S. House of Representatives has already
included such a ban in H.R.915, the House FAA Reauthorization
Bill. Cell phone usage in the cabin would create a new security
risk by compromising your ability to maintain order in the cabin
and to safely execute an emergency evacuation if
necessary.
Please help us by taking a moment to send a message to your
Senators, mandating them to pass a cell phone ban by clicking
here!
This campaign expires on July 17, 2009 so please take action
now! _________________________________________________________________________
The Association of Flight Attendants-CWA is asking for your
help on another issue members have made it clear that they'd
like addressed.
Last week Representative Dan Lipinski, D - IL3,
introduced the Securing Cabin Baggage Act,
H.R.2870. H.R.2870 will standardize and clarify the dimensions
of carry-on baggage and personal items brought onto aircraft.
The bill also asks that the TSA enforce the carry-on bag limits.
The standards proposed in this bill would dramatically
decrease the amounts of disruptions in the cabin, help prevent
delays in boarding and deplaning, and improve safety on board
the aircraft.
The bill will help Transportation Security Administration
(TSA) efficiency at security checkpoints. By having smaller bags
TSA employees would be able to perform clearer and less
condensed x-ray scans, being able to find the "needle in the
haystack" with more ease.
We need your help to pass this legislation! Please help us
by taking a moment and clicking below to send a message to your
congressman, asking them for their support on H.R. 2870 Securing
Cabin Baggage Act.
Take action
now! ________________________________ Involuntary Furlough
FAQ's More
Questions? furlough@afa66.orgVoluntary Furloughs
The bid
for voluntary furloughs remains open to any Flight Attendant who
is currently NOT on the involuntary furlough list. The
voluntary furloughs will be offered in seniority order and for
an indefinite period of time. If you are considering a Voluntary
Furlough, please refer to Section 21 –
Furlough/Displacement/Recall in the Flight Attendant Agreement.
Once the bid has closed, the Company will once again post
the awards and the final list of involuntary furloughs. The US
Airways Inflight Department will then individually contact those
flight attendants who are involuntarily furloughed.
AFA continues to encourage the Company to consider other
alternatives to eliminate flight attendant furloughs. We
also encourage any flight attendant who is able, to take
advantage of the voluntary furlough to mitigate job loss. As we
do in challenging and difficult situations, look to each other
for support and encouragement and do what you can to take care
of each other.
The voluntary furlough form must be received by Inflight
Planning no later than Noon (MST), Thursday, July 9, 2009.
Sick Policy Reminder
The July 4th holiday weekend is quickly

verify illness or injury.”
As a reminder, Flight Attendants are contractually required
to notify Crew Scheduling of an illness as far in advance as
possible of her/his scheduled trip report time or the
commencement of reserve duty, but sick calls must be made at
least two (2) hours before the scheduled report time or
commencement of reserve duty.
