As you know, there is much at stake for working people in this year’s race for Governor and State Assembly in New Jersey. Equally important are the local elections for the Board of Chosen Freeholders. Electing labor friendly candidates is crucial to achieving a working families agenda for our members.

In 2008, we scored a victory with the election of Barack Obama to the U.S. Presidency, and our Central Labor Council was instrumental in re-electing Frank Lautenberg to the U.S Senate and Steve Rothman to U.S. House of Representatives.

More importantly, we’ve worked throughout the year to hold those elected politicians accountable to their campaign promises by garnering support for pro-worker legislation, project labor agreements, organizing and contract fights. In addition, we are one of the few CLCs that maintain a full-time Executive Director in order to more successfully implement our campaigns. We hope to build upon our past success and continue to expand our program. These goals can only be achieved by a well financed, resourced and staffed Central Labor Council with the solidarity of the entire labor movement.
