Campaign Unavailable We're sorry, this alert is no longer available. If you would like to learn more about ways you can take action, please visit AFSCME 3090 Action Center. The short explanation of this alert was: Protect Our Privacy Write a Letter to Controller Laura Chick Telling Her Vulnerable City Workers Shouldn't Have Their Privacy Invaded Recently the Daily News published a series of articles blaming city workers for Los Angeles' current budget crisis and posted their salaries online. The newspaper's data base includes all city workers' names, departments, classifications and pay range. Many City workers have legitimate reasons for identity protection and need to be able to expect a level of privacy, particularly victims of domestic violence. Those members now feel that their trust has been violated and their privacy invaded.
Local 3090 President Alice Goff has written Controller Chick a strong letter objecting to the way the Controller's office turned over information to the newspaper, stating that the local received no forewarning and therefore were unable to protect our most vulnerable members from possible harm. When the same situation came up with the Orange County Register, the county management worked with AFSCME to ensure that sensitive names of members were withheld.
Please write to Controller Chick today voicing your concern about invasion of privacy of city workers.
