Free Burma's Political Prisoners Now

Nobel Prize Laureate and Burmese democracy activist Aung San Suu Kyi, recently arrested and sent to prison, is only one of thousands of political prisoners languishing in Burmese jails. The prisoners endure torture, forced labor, and unsanitary conditions detrimental to their health, all because they spoke out for freedom and human rights against the brutal military junta in power today in Burma. Join the AFT in speaking out against this injustice by signing a petition. Hundreds of thousands have already signed and the goal is to reach 888,888, a number significant to the Burmese democracy cause, by the end of the week.

Send this petition to:

  • Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon

"Until all of our political prisoners are free, none of us can say that Burma is now truly on the road towards democratic change." Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, 1991 Nobel Peace Prize Winner, held under house arrest for 13 of the last 19 years and currently facing charges that could result in a five-year prison term.

The military government, the State Peace and Development Council (SPDC), must immediately and unconditionally release all political prisoners including Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, Khun Tun Oo and Min Ko Naing.

The release of all political prisoners is the first and most important step toward freedom and democracy in Burma. We, the undersigned, call upon U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to make it his personal priority to secure the release of all of Burma's political prisoners by the SPDC.
