ENDA in the Senate 2009
On August 5, 2009 Senator Jeff Merkley (D-OR) introduced the Employment Nondiscrimination Act (ENDA) in the Senate. It was introduced in the House of Representatives earlier this year, and both versions include both sexual orientation and gender identity.
This landmark civil rights legislation would extend federal employment discrimination protections to lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender Americans. These same protections are already provided based on a person's race, religion, gender, national origin, age, and disability.
As the bill comes into play in the Senate, it is important to let your senators know that you want a transgender-inclusive ENDA passed this session.
