What's At Stake?

Reform the UC!

SCA 21 and ACA 24 will open the door to fix UC's problem areas:

Excessive Executive Pay:

While fees rise and access decreases, UC continues to hire executives at a premium rate.

While the executive pay scandal broke under former UC President Dynes, President Yudof continues the pattern

UC Executives have inflated their own salaries for the past few years to the point where they wont feel small cuts in pay now.

Steeply rising student fees:

Fees are rising 9% this year and have risen significantly in 6 of the past 7 years.

UC Regents who are out of touch:

The majority of UC Regents are appointed by the governor to 12-year terms. They are not chosen for their ability to run a large public university systems, but instead tend to include the wealthy and politically well-connected.

The state constitution requires Regents to reflect the socio-economic diversity of California. Per capita income in California in 2006 was $27,000. It is doubtful that any Regent earns at or below this level.

With virtually no accountability to the public, Regents? conflicts of interest with UC investments continue to plague the University and decrease its public credibility.
