Senate Republicans Refuse Vital TAA Benefits to Laid-off workers

A Christmas Carol: Starring Senate Republicans as Ebenezer Scrooge

The Senate Republican leadership is presently blocking a 3-month extension of Trade Adjustment Assistance(TAA) for laid-off workers. TAA programs were created for the purpose of providing workers that have lost their jobs due to outsourcing or imports, with financial assistance, job training, wage insurance and health insurance. Without this extension, laid-off workers will be denied vital assistance to get themselves and their families back on their feet during rough times.

Extension of the TAA was unanimously approved by the House of Representatives yet the Senate Republicans led by Senator Kyl of Arizona are blocking the agreement. What kind of holiday message are Senate Republicans sending to these vulnerable workers?

Bah, humbug to the Republican leadership! If the current Trade Adjustment Assistance expires, thousands of workers will be left out in the cold!

In the spirit of the holiday, let us give the gift of solidarity which we give best! Let's join our brothers and sisters who are struggling to get through a tough and job-less time.

Contact Republican senators to tell them not to forget about American workers and stop blocking a TAA extension!

Talking Points

*The holidays are right around the corner and thousands of displaced workers and their families are struggling with unemployment, re-training to qualify for jobs, and receiving essential benefits to get themselves and their loved ones on their feet during this difficult time.

*Do not leave these workers out in the cold by blocking a TAA extension and benefits that they DESERVE because they are displaced by our own trade policies.

*As a U.S. legislator, please remember that you represent the interests of the American people without neglecting the American worker.

*Blocking an extension to the Trade Adjustment Assistance is an infraction on the American worker and you cannot allow this to happen. Without this assistance, dislocated workers will find it difficult to compete in the labor market and will struggle to provide financial security for their loved ones.

*Please support the TAA extension and demonstrate the same concern for the well being of displaced Americans, that the House of Representatives has shown.
