Senate Republicans Refuse Vital TAA Benefits to Laid-off workers

Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA)

These are programs that were created with the purpose to aid American workers that have lost their jobs as a result of trade (imports, outsourcing, etc.)

Under TAA, dislocated workers are eligible for services and benefits created to assist them in getting back to work as soon as possible.

TAA programs offer laid-off workers services such as: rapid response assistance, re-employment services, job search allowances, relocation allowances, income support as well as health coverage tax credits (covering up to 65% of the monthly health insurance premium).

Without these essential services:

A worker will not be able to provide for his/her family while acquiring the skills needed to be employed in the current labor market.

The health of thousands of workers and their families will be at risk without adequate health insurance.
