Collective bargaining, coupled with full workplace rights, will enable these men and women to address workplace safety issues and ensure adequate training in order to effectively complete their mission and provide protection when they point out potential security breaches.
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) was created in response to the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. Collective bargaining rights didn’t inhibit the heroic actions of the 9/11 first responders. Our honorable men and women who fulfill the duties of Transportation Security Officer (TSO) deserve the same consideration.
Please sign this petition to demonstrate your support and request that DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano push for the appointment of a TSA administrator who can move to rescind the 2003 directive prohibiting collective bargaining and issue a new directive placing the TSA workforce under Chapter 71 of the Federal Service Labor Management Relations Statute.
We, the undersigned support Transportation Security Officers (TSOs), who have worked diligently and effectively to protect travelers and our country since the creation of the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) over seven years ago. TSOs have done so despite the absence of labor laws to ensure that they are treated fairly, properly compensated, and protected when they point out potential security breaches. The time for change is long overdue. It is time for TSOs to have full workplace rights, including the right to bargain collectively. This is the most effective path to building the professional workforce that our country demands and deserves. We urge you to take immediate action to ensure that TSOs are granted full workplace rights by rescinding the 2003 directive prohibiting collective bargaining and issuing a new directive placing the TSA workforce under Chapter 71 of the Federal Service Labor Management Relations Statute.
