The short explanation of this alert was:
Help guarantee Flight Attendant FMLA fairness. Take action again and again!
Last month, the U.S. House of Representatives passed AFA drafted legislation that would remove the need to bargain for meaningful FMLA protections. HR 2744 passed on an overwhelming bipartisan vote of 402-9. Passage of this legislation means that flight attendants will be afforded the protections of the law that all other workers in this country enjoy and we would no longer have to bargain for it at the bargaining table with management. No longer would we be penalized for the unique way our hours are calculated in the airline industry. It was the overwhelming response from AFA members all over the country calling their Representatives in Washington, DC that led to such an amazing bipartisan victory on this legislation in the House of Representatives. But we are now only half way to victory. We must now get this bill passed by the United States Senate. Getting legislation through the Senate is always much more difficult, but recently the Department of Labor has expressed opposition to the legislation because they believe that all reserve flight attendants are "part-time" employees and therefore should not qualify for FMLA as this bill would allow. We need to overcome this opposition by the Department of Labor by having as many Senators as possible cosponsor the legislation. Even if you have already called or written your Senator, please take a few minutes to take action through this e-Activist campaign - which will send a fax to your Senator's office.
