Delphi is asking the U.S. bankruptcy court to void imore than 50 years of collective bargaining history by setting aside IUE-CWA contracts and eliminating retiree health care and life insurance.

Delphi wants to cut wages, freeze its pension and force workers to pay substantially more for health care. It also seeks to close or sell all but three of its IUE-CWA-represented facilities and shed 5,500 of the 8,500 IUE-CWA members. Every one job in the auto industry translates into another six to eight jobs, economists estimate. If Delphi succeeds in breaking its contracts the impact on not only Delphi workers, but its customers and communities, would be devastating.
