Campaign Unavailable We're sorry, this alert is no longer available. If you would like to learn more about ways you can take action, please visit AFT Michigan Get Active. The short explanation of this alert was: We have a state budget that is bad and getting worse. Under the budget most school districts are looking at cuts of around $165 per student. The Governor used her line-item veto and districts receiving 20(j) funds are facing even deeper cuts. And, yesterday, after looking at how low the projected revenues are, the Governor cut an additional $127 per pupil. Higher Education is looking at cuts of 4% plus cuts to student financial aid. None of these cuts need to happen if the House and Senate do their job. They reached a budget agreement that is based on finding revenue to pay for it, but they have not done that. Tell your Senator and Representative that it is time to finish the job. Otherwise school districts will be closing and students will be shortchanged in their education.
