The short explanation of this alert was:

Tell your legislators and Governor Schwarzenegger that California needs a state budget that will preserve Proposition 98 - adequately funding K-14 education.

During the 2003 recall election, gubernatorial candidate Arnold Schwarzenegger was asked by a reporter if he would be willing to delay Proposition 98 funds to balance the state budget.  He responded, "There are certain fundamental things I would just say, 'Not over my dead body.'"

A few months later, when crafting his first budget, Gov. Schwarzenegger promised to limit the Proposition 98 cut to $2 billion.  But in January 2005, his budget proposed significantly more than $2 billion in ongoing cuts.  His "reform" agenda includes dramatic structural changes in Proposition 98 and K-14 funding that will cost education $36 billion over the next 15 years.
