Uzbek Government, Stop Child Labor NOW

During this back-to-school season, the children of Uzbekistan are being sent into the fields and forced by the government to pick cotton. Please sign this petition telling the Uzbek government that this practice is morally unacceptable and that they must not stand silently by as Uzbek children are forced back into the fields.

The undersigned group of individuals call for the government of Uzbekistan to: immediately cease the mobilization of children and adults for forced labor in the cotton sector; immediately implement commitments under the International Labor Organization (ILO) conventions and other international treaties; invite an ILO high-level mission during the upcoming harvest; allow independent journalists and human rights advocates unfettered access to fact-find during 2009 harvest without fear of harassment or reprisal; and, cease its harassment of human rights defenders.
