Sen. Feinstein Needs to Hear From You on Health Care Reform - Take Action Today!

For working families, the tenets of health care reform are clear. We need a public health care option, we need employers to pay their fair share, and we DON’T need taxes on our health care benefits.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein needs to hear from you on these three pivotal components of health care reform. She’s hearing a lot from the opponents of reform, and it’s up to us to make sure she knows how important these issues are to California’s working families.

I am writing in support of real, comprehensive health care reform that includes a public option, doesn't impose any taxes on health care benefits for low- and middle-income families and ensures that employers pay their fair share.

According to a recent poll from the Public Policy Institute of California, 62 percent of Californians support a health care public option. A low-cost public option would mean that everyone would finally have access to quality, affordable health care, and private insurers would be forced to lower rates and improve care to compete with the public insurer. Without a public option, we cannot achieve the kind of real, comprehensive reform our broken health care system so desperately needs.

I would also like to voice my opposition to any health care plan that taxes health care benefits for working poor and middle-income families. A tax on benefits would only make health care even more unaffordable than it already is.

Additionally, I'd like to emphasize how important it is that everyone, including employers, pay their fair share towards health care. Any health care reform bill must ensure that employers assume responsibility for contributing to the cost of health care for their employees through a 'pay or play' system.

Right now, a handful of conservative Senators from small states are controlling the health care reform process. As the Senator from California, I urge you to take a leadership role in the Senate negotiations so that the final bill will be good for working families.
