Save Jobs and Make Corporations Pay Their Fair Share

H.R. 4213 - the Promoting American Jobs and Closing Tax Loopholes Act of 2010 - is one of the most critical pieces of legislation facing Congress this spring. The bill has passed the House of Representatives and now faces a Senate vote.

The bill will provide numerous benefits to unemployed workers and provide assistance for job creation. To pay for these programs it will close numerous corporate tax loopholes. Especially important to CWA members, the legislation will close the Reverse Morris Trust corporate tax loophole that has been utilized by Verizon to the detriment of CWA members and consumers.

As a member of the Communications Workers of America, I am writing to urge you to support H.R. 4213, the Promoting American Jobs and Closing Tax Loopholes Act of 2010.

Workers and their families have been devastated by this economic crisis. H.R. 4213 contains numerous tax cuts and benefit extensions that will help both workers and our employers through this woeful economy. Additionally, H.R. 4213 closes many tax-loopholes that have been hurting workers and consumers since before this crisis began, including the Reverse Morris Trust tax-loophole. The Reverse Morris Trust tax-loophole is a Wall Street scheme that allows big businesses to avoid paying taxes on the sale of company assets. Closing the Reverse Morris Trust tax-loophole would have meant hundreds of millions of dollars in tax revenue this past year, and would require that companies pay their fair share of taxes on the sale of their assets.

Please do not allow the most vulnerable Americans to go without this emergency support. We urge you to support the critical extensions in H.R. 4213, and to support the repeal of the Reverse Morris Trust tax-loophole.
