Say No to the Low Pay Highway

Can you imagine going to work one day and learning that your boss was changing your pay structure from an hourly wage to a piece work wage? How does .83 cents per call sound to you? How would you feel if your boss announced this new piece work scheme the very day you won a hard-fought union election? If you work at Affiliated Computer Services, providing customer support for EZ Pass users in New York State, being paid per call may soon become a reality.

To make matters worse, ACS works directly with the NYS Thruway Authority and other State agencies to run the EZ Pass system in New York. ACS is funded by our taxes!

Send a message today to NYS Thruway Authority Chairman John L. Buono and demand that the NYS Thruway Authority tell their contractor to say no to piece work at EZ Pass.

As a New Yorker, whose taxes fund the EZ Pass contract with ACS, I am appalled to learn that ACS is attempting to institute what they call "Activity Based Compensation" on their employees in Staten Island. This is nothing but piece work. When ACS has instituted this at other locations, I understand that many workers were forced to quit because their pay went down by over 50%.  I hope you agree that it is not acceptable for the NYS Thruway Authority to condone this type of pay scheme from one of their contractors.

ACS workers at the EZ Pass Call Center provide critical customer service to users of EZ Pass. If workers are getting paid per call, surely there will be an incentive to quickly dispose of callers as soon as possible. I would hope that the Thruway will not tolerate a reduction in service quality at the EZ Pass Call Center.

I ask that you insist that ACS uphold quality service at EZ Pass, and further, that you let ACS know that the NYS Thruway Authority does not condone piece work in NY.
